A public meeting is to be held to reform the Scottsdale Fishing Club.

The club was formed early last century, but went into recess about six years ago, with interest at a low ebb.

A club representative Ashley Summers believes improved fishing conditions of many inland waters and with people looking for healthy outdoor pursuits during Covid when they were unable to travel far was leading to a resurgence in interest.

“We’re hoping to really give a push for junior anglers.

“The junior fishing sessions we held at Bowens’ dam at Springfield as part of the North-East Rivers Festival were really well attended.

“We couldn’t hold it last year because of Covid, but we might try something later in the year perhaps during the holiday period,” he said.

Mr Summers said the club might also consider applying for recently-announced funding to encourage recreational fishing.

“We’d like to see some better access to Big Waterhouse Lake so that it could be fished from a walkway and pontoon and you wouldn’t need a boat, which is pretty essential at the moment.”

Anyone with an interest in angling is being invited to attend the meeting to refloat the club at the Scottsdale RSL Club from 7 pm and Thursday September 2.
