The deep pink hues of the solid myrtle floorboards in Scottsdale’s Mechanics’ Hall are to be given a new gleam.
Time and materials to sand and recoat the floor have been donated along with funds to help with other resources.
The president of the hall committee, Craig Briggs, said the donations have been the norm with the hall’s restoration.
“It just underlines the community support for what is a community asset and how people have a sense of ownership, so they just want to help out.”
The floor was last painted about six years ago and since then it has hosted numerous line dancing sessions, yoga, concerts and other events.
It received a satin finish then, but this time will get a tougher high gloss polyurethane, which is expected to lift the interior of the hall.
Timber coatings supplier Intergrain has donated the polyurethane and Shane Summers of North-East Floor Sanding is providing his time free to do the preparation.
The project has also been helped along by a donation of more than $1500 as a result of a series of art and gastronomy sessions in the hall.
The Bubbles and Brushes events involved some tutelage in painting by John Gibb accompanied by fine food and beverage provided by Teresa Scott of Ellesmere Providore.
The funds were the proceeds of an auction of the painting completed by John during the sessions.
“I’m happy to give back to the community that has given me so much over the years,” he said.
