With a personal connection to how devastating mental health conditions can be four local women have set themselves a challenge like no other to raise money and awareness for Beyond Blue.

Pledging to complete the 60-kilometre Melbourne Coastrek on the Mornington Peninsula Bridport’s Celeste Abraham, Sarah Hughes, Stacey Abraham, and Priya Khanna say they look forward to the challenge.

“We’ve called our team the Tassie Trekkers and have pledged to raise $2000 collectively for Beyond Blue, $500 each,” Celeste said.

“Personally, my motivation is to raise awareness and funds for mental health, especially since my father took his own life back in 2009, and for the many other friends and family who have/are struggling with their mental health.

“I would also like my boys to grow up in an era where mental health is seen as important to their wellbeing and there are sufficient support services if they need it,” Celeste explained.

The challenge will take place on Friday May 22 with the local team kicking off a 12-week training program soon to prepare them for the difficult trek.

“We have to complete the 60-kilometre trek in under 18 hours; we plan to do lots of walking, a range of sand running and long day hikes,” she said.

The Tassie Trekkers say they're most looking forward to being in a supportive team environment in a spectacular part of Australia, and of course- the finish line!
