The Bridport Seaside Caravan park’s new managers Danny and Amanda Lee say they already feel at home after moving to the North-East from St Helens several weeks ago.
The pair have stepped into the role after running a cleaning business in St Helens for the past 15 years.
Throughout this time the Lees were cleaning accommodation throughout the Bay of Fires, window cleaning and tinting, chimney sweeping, managing properties and doing contract cleaning for medical centres and childcares.
Last week was their first week solo in the park after several weeks of training.
Danny said growing up in Low Head, his family often camped at the Bridport caravan park in the school holidays.
“We used to come here for the first 15-16 years of my young life so I already had great memories of the place so to be able to come back as the caretaker is really nice,” he said.
“As soon as we stepped foot back here I remembered all the little beaches and building sandcastles down by the beach.
“It felt like home straight away.”
Amanda said they both love the coastal lifestyle.
“We’ve done a lot of travelling around the world and Australia. We’re just into the ocean life,” she said.
“We jumped at this opportunity to come to Bridport for the job security and a change of scenery which is closer to family in Launceston and Devonport.”
She said they are in the process of getting the park ready for summer, including replanting the herb garden.
“Really though we want it to stay what people always thought it was, a seaside coastal destination that’s relaxing and clean and enjoyable,” Danny said.
Danny is also a keen underwater photographer and is enjoying exploring the Bridport coastline.
The kiosk now stocks essentials items such as sunscreen, toothpaste and washing powder.
Prints of their underwater photography are also available at the site office.
Dorset Council director of works and infrastructure Dwaine Griffin thanked the outgoing park managers Rodney and Debbie Blair for their work over the past six years.
“We appreciate Rodney and Debbie’s last six years of service to the caravan park and the improvements they made,” he said.
“Council looks forward to working with Danny and Amanda in the future, continuing to make improvements to the caravan park and making it more family friendly.”
