Sadly, the restrictions of Covid-19 have claimed another local event with the announcement that the Scottsdale Trots planned for January 8, 2021 has been cancelled.
The favourite local calendar outing will be sorely missed by the community with the meet now being hosted by the Launceston Pacing Club at Mowbray.
North-East Pacing Club president Rodney Hill said the decision didn’t come lightly and was unanimous by the committee.
“We decided back in August that we would look at the work that we had to do to meet the requirements with Covid and would give it until the end of October before we made the decision,” he said.
“One of the biggest issues was everyone had to be seated around the bar at the time of the decision, whilst these have now changed, we couldn’t keep extending the timeline waiting for more news as it takes many months to organise an event like this.
“So unfortunately, from our perspective it was too difficult.”
Mowbray will now host the Scottsdale racing program, still on Friday January 8 in a twilight timeslot with Sky 2 coverage.
Mr Hill said all things going well 2022 they will be back racing once again in Scottsdale.
“We want maintain the Scottsdale Cup, that’s why Launceston will be running the races.”
Other than the year that the event was rained out there isn’t a known time that the trots hasn’t taken place in Scottsdale, a sad day indeed.
