Bridport’s Jen Barron has stepped into a new role this week as the coordinator at Dorset Community House.

She said she’s looking forward to working alongside people from all throughout the region.

“I’m really excited for this role, I think the house plays a pivotal role for the community,” she said.

“I think bringing my particular skill set can enhance what the amazing work the house is already doing and hopefully I can help it expand further into the community.

“I’m passionate about the whole of community. If you asked me if I have a particular focus, that’s on wellbeing and the wellbeing of the whole person. What the House offers is a holistic approach.”

Jen will be the manager for the next six months working four days a week, while continuing her yoga business and the work she does for Africa.

In the past Jen was the Dorset Council youth health officer for nine years, part of which involved running youth group FEWCHA.

There’s a sense that all those young people that I used to work with then now have their own young people so there’s a sense I may be able to engage with that,” she said.

“It’s all about relationships and connection and we’re hoping we can grow those existing connections.”

Jen said she’s looking forward to working alongside the dedicated team of staff and volunteers who make the Community House possible.

“This is the perfect time for anyone to come in and talk about what they love in the community and what their challenges are,” she concluded.
