Marketed as a wider, quicker and less daunting trail, Derby’s newest green airflow trail Hazy Days will open this weekend and honours the late Jeffrey Hayes.

The rolling track was due to open last November but due to the significant landslip that occurred in Derby had been delayed and re directed for a soft launch this weekend, weather dependent.

World Trail who helped construct the trail alongside Council’s trail team said a trail like this was really needed for this level.

Speaking with Flow Mountain Bike Glen Jacobson said it’s super wide with multiple lines of rolling obstacles.

“There is no forced risk —and you’re not forced into something too quick or too scary.

“We now can confidently send new riders up to Black Stump for the full Blue Derby experience.”

The trail was achieved through a $250,000 AusTrade grant from the federal government involving Tourism Tasmania, Visit Northern Tasmania and the Department of State Growth.

There is a section in the centre that has yet to be built due to the landslip, but an extra 150 metres of trail was constructed to connect it to an existing track.

The future will see the upper and lower parts of the trail eventually be connected through the landslip.

Beginners are encouraged to take advantage of the new trail and know that there isn’t an area on the terrain where their skill level will not permit.
