If you’ve visited St Helens recently you might have noticed that there’s been a bit of activity around the wharf and Georges Bay Foreshore.

The extension of the Georges Bay multi-user track is now underway.

The works will include the construction of a walking track which will be part boardwalk and part gravel pathway similar to the existing track.

The new section will start at the bottom of Lawry Heights and follow the Georges Bay foreshore all the way to the wharf off the road.

The pathway will also include a separate pedestrian and cycling bridge.

The completion of this project will mean that cyclists and walkers will be able to walk all the way from Lions Park into St Helens off the road.

BridgePro Engineering have been contracted for the work but the pedestrian bridge and other components have been manufactured by local boat builders Lyndcraft Boats.

The foreshore track construction will start at the end of July by contractors Streetwise Developments.

The project was made possible with $2.1 million funding from the Australian Government’s Community Development Grants Program.

The bridge works will occur over the next three months and are anticipated to be completed in early November.
