A North-East business promotion has been a windfall for one local resident.

The campaign hosted by the North-East Chamber of Commerce and North-East Tasmania Tourism involved 18 local businesses offering customers a chance to win $500 worth of vouchers to be redeemed through the participating businesses.

The random draw of the winner changed the direction of the day for Bridport resident Kym Corfield.

“I wasn’t having a good day at all, so to get that call was great.

“I never win anything,” she said.

The promotion involved entrants using a specific QR code at the businesses.

“I’m a regular tapper, so it was no hassle,” Mrs Corfield said.

Chamber of Commerce president Cynthia Summers said the Wine Dine, Stay and Play promotion was held over three months earlier this year and would be repeated early next year.

“There were a few issues early on with getting the QR code app working properly and with having the code displayed so customers could identify it.

“But with people now getting used to using the government check-in app automatically, it should be too hard to extend that to entering a competition.”

She’s hoping to have more businesses involved next time too.
