Beverley’s life well lived

• Beverley Dornauf from Aminya offers some sage advice.

Aminya resident Beverley Dornauf will be 90 in April and she looks back on her happy life, offering a piece of wisdom or two for the younger generation.
She was born in Launceston but both of her parents hailed from the North-East, and she was drawn back to the region later in life.
In Mrs Dornauf’s adult life she lived on a farm at Lilydale with her husband, prior to moving to Bridport around 50 years ago.
When asked for her best dating advice, she said the secret to a lasting relationship is to never stop talking to each other and be friends.
One memory that sticks in her mind is her first wedding anniversary present.
“We lived on a farm at Lilydale at the time and he had some pigs with a boar in the paddock next to me and he got me a little pig,” she said.
“I called her Betsy and when she grew up she had piglets, then when they grew up to six weeks old I sold them and the money I made I used to buy carpet or a fridge.”
Mrs Dornauf said her fondest life memory is marrying her husband, and living a happy life with him and their five children.
The Advertiser has conducted a series of brief interviews with Aminya residents which will be published over the coming months.
