NE Axemen Association angst

The long and proud history of the North East Axeman’s Association is under threat with woodchopping in the region on the literal chopping block.

An AGM will be held this Thursday, August 7, at Kendalls Hotel from 7.30pm, with the group at risk of folding if new committee members and office bearers aren’t forthcoming.

“Unfortunately, over the years our numbers have gone from 20 down to just five competing axemen,” member Joe Rattray said.

“The last few years the Kettle family have stood tall and held the NEAA committee going strong but have stepped away from their roles.

“We only have a few meetings and carnivals a year so it’s not a huge ask to save the woodchopping. If we can’t get the numbers, then unfortunately this will be the end.”
