Thanks to a generous bequest of funds to the Legerwood Hall and Reserves Committee the playground will be undergoing a $60,000 upgrade at the end of this year.

The late Bonnie Heazlewood-Foster left $30,000 in her will to the group in memory of her nephew Jason Heazlewood after being a long time supporter of the recreational facility.

Secretary Cindy Walsh said the group were amazed and humbled by the bequest.

“We are very lucky, and we know that many children and families will appreciate and use the facilities and playground,” she said.

Dorset Council has committed a further $15,000 in their budget to undertake the civil construction work for the playground expansion as well as the soft fall surrounding the equipment.

Mrs Walsh said the group have chosen to purchase a four-seat carousel in memory of Jason as well as a five way multi swing from Ultimate Play.

“There are always lots of parties, playgroups and children lining up for swings so we thought this would be put to good use.

“We did look into purchasing a little train, but it was out of our budget sadly.”

The remainder of the funding will be contributed by the Legerwood Hall and Reserves Committee.

“We ordered the equipment this week and it takes around 16 weeks to receive the delivery, so we imagine the project won’t be able to commence until later in the year,” Mrs Walsh concluded.
