Racegoers braved the rain and came out in full force on Friday night to support the highly anticipated Twilight Trots.

While numbers were down on previous years, North-East Pacing Club secretary Pamella Krushka said it was pleasing to still see so many people supporting the event.

“We did the best we could, given the circumstances we were caught with,” she said.

“Unfortunately we had to cancel fashions on the field because it became an OHS issue, which was a shame.“Even though it was wet, a lot of people said it was probably some of the best racing they’ve seen there for a while – they were all good close finishes.”

A highlight of the evening was the double seater sulky celebrity race, featuring Tasmanian cricket Coach Tim Coyle with Rohan Hillier, Mayor Greg Howard with Sam Rawnsley, Scottsdale Football Club coach Ethan Petterwood with Conor Crook, and our very own editor Taylor Clyne with Rohan Hadley.

Mrs Krushka said the race received a great response from patrons and there’s a strong chance it will be back next year.

The North-East Pacing Cup was won by Ideal World driven by Mark Yole and trained by Aaron Bain from Beaconsfield.

Black Centurian, who was bred locally at Jetsonville, ran third in the cup, followed by Buster William driven by Samuel Rawnsley and trained by Wayne Campbell.

The sun came out for the last race and people came out from shelter to enjoy a live set from the Smokin’ Elmores to round out the evening.
