Rushy ride biggest yet
By Taylor Clyne
A crew of close to hundred people ventured out to Rushy Lagoon on Saturday morning in beautiful weather conditions for the highly anticipated Rushy horse ride.
This was the sixth ride since 2015 organised by Nile and Michelle Clifford soaking in the picturesque farm and coastal landscapes the region is known for.
35 horse and rider combinations with a large convoy of support vehicles, dogs and friends left the shearing sheds at 10am in search of an adventure.
“We planned the ride through the Rushy paddocks via Petal Point onto Seven Mile Beach and up the sand banks to the cattle yards for a lunch stop and then back through the Rushy farm to the finish,” Michelle said.
“It was a fantastic weekend and our largest ride in total numbers ever, lots of people travelled to be a part of it so it was nice to see some new faces.”
“Thank you to all those that came and helped make it such a great day.”
There were a few fresh horses but the whole ride returned in once piece with a few bruises, but nothing broken and lots of memories made.
“It was not so fun for me, my mare and I aren’t really on speaking terms,” Michelle laughed.
The Clifford’s paid tribute to Rodney and Jackie Moore for allowing the group to use the facilities and share this beautiful part of the world with like minded people.
The event was used as a fundraiser for Rushy boy Bai Wagner who is on the road to recovery after suffering a stroke with $500 raised.
The group and their horses camped over at shearing sheds and partied well into the evening with talks already commenced on the 2023 ride.
