When Bridport yoga-teacher and massage therapist Kate Gadd was diagnosed with her second round of brain cancer, two of her friends decided they wanted to send her on a wellness holiday.
Lou Brook and Beck Hall from Beaumaris have organised a yoga fundraiser and silent auction to raise funds for Kate.
“She is just a really kind, gentle soul and she’s a really great yoga teacher, amazing massage therapist, and doesn’t deserve what she’s going through,” Ms Hall said.
“After having just gone through more surgery, we as her friends feel it’s time to create a ladies’ day out and raise some funds for her to help her manage this condition.
“The outcome is unknown, therefore we wish to create a special day for the ladies and raise some funds to send Kate off on a wellness holiday.”
The first event will be a silent auction this Saturday at The Social Tasmania in St Helens from 4pm-7pm.
Ms Hall said they have been fortunate to have many great items donated for auction by local businesses, including a Bay of Fires bush retreat, a Freycinet cruise, sparkling wine, paintings, naturopath vouchers and a hamper of products.
The evening will be complete with live music, food and beverages.
There will also be a ladies’ day on Sunday June 2 from 11am-3pm at Gallery Parnella in St Helens.
The ladies’ day will begin with a gentle yoga session, followed by a gourmet lunch with champagne.
The day will conclude with restorative yoga and yoga Nidra, including a sound bath, massage and essential oils.
It is $69 per person for the day, and all funds raised from both events will be donated to Kate for a wellness trip of her choice.
“I think in such a small community, we’re aiming to raise a couple of thousand,” Ms Hall said.
“I’d love to get $5,000 to give her an amazing time away but every little bit is going to give her something nice to get her through this really difficult time.”
Numbers are limited for the ladies’ day so call Beck on 0400 576 960 to book your place.
