General Manager Tim Watson has said the $7 million Scottsdale Pool re-development is currently five weeks behind schedule due to constant wet weather.
The build which is expected to be finished by July 2021 requires the basic pool structure to be completed prior to summer to allow for important tiling work that can only be completed during the summer months.
“Consistent wet weather has caused delays with the construction of the swimming pool including the need to dig out some of the already installed compacted gravel fill.
“The issue, or where it causes problems, is in the new year when they do the tiling as they must tile before winter,” he said.
“They have good weather forecast this week; they [contractors] think they can probably pick it up.
“Financially it's not Council’s issue, they have tendered at a set price and the delays caused by weather are not included in any contingencies.”
It’s understood the Branxholm Swimming Pool will be open longer hours and days this summer to give the community a place to swim while the Scottsdale Pool is closed for the build.
Branxholm has a newly installed heater and is expected to open late November, to be advised.
