Following the success of last year’s ‘Tinsel the Town’ event, Karen Rainbow’s new idea is not just good for the environment but also challenges your creativity too.
The competition is to ‘Tyre the Town’ by turning recycled tyres into weird and wonderful festive displays.
Mrs Rainbow said her mantra has always been to create community spirit and give people a reason to smile.
“I wanted our town to have our own idea for decorations whilst recycling stuff too,” she said.
There are more than thirty entries already in with snowmen, Santa’s, wreaths and more.
“Each entry will be judged on originality, effort but most of all Christmas spirit.
“I’ve seen a few Chrissy wreaths hanging out the front of residents houses, it’s awesome mate.”
The Dorset Council are allowing participants to borrow tyres from the Scottsdale Waste Transfer Station and return them free of charge after Christmas.
“It doesn’t sound much but we don’t want tyres that people are gifted thrown out the bush as there is a charge to dump at the tip, so it’s an important bit and, recycling at its best,” Mrs Rainbow said.
To enter you need to create your own display, take a photo and email the image along with your address where the display can be viewed to scottsec@internode.on.net
The ‘Tyre the Town’ competition will be judged on December 16.
First prize will receive $150 cash, second place $75 and third $25.
