After close to two years of delays and intricate works behind the scenes, the Council has finally awarded the tender for the Scottsdale Swimming Pool’s $6 million re-development.
$4.19 million has been approved in this year’s capital expenditure budget with the remainder being carried into the next financial year.
“The tender was awarded to Fairbrother which is a highly reputable Tasmanian based construction company,” Mayor Howard said.
“They won the tender over two other companies based purely on the price because the operational capacity of all those who tendered was almost identical.”
The project is predicted to commence in August of this year, with Fairbrother giving the Council a timeline of 217 days for completion.
“So that looks like 12 months, give or take a few.”
The price has come in higher than Council had initially hoped for, looking to be closer to the $7 million mark with the inclusion of the wet play area.
“We have changed some of the materials that we’re using and have modified the design slightly with the location on the filtration and heating system now under the one roof so we’re thinking it will still cost less.”
The new design will not include a diving board due to the extra cost associated with the depth of the pool and ongoing supervision.
“It will instead be one depth the whole way along and include eight wider lanes which will meet specification to run regional swim meets.
“Alongside this, both pools will have disabled access and a great wet play area.
“This is a long overdue project that we’re looking forward to getting underway,” Mayor Howard concluded.
