Respected and experienced swimmer Jane Kilburn has been named as the 2022 coach of the Scottsdale Swimming Club.
Ms Kilburn is relatively new to the area, moving to Springfield in April 2020 after living on Bruny Island for a few years and before that travelling around the world.
She was a competitive swimmer when she was young competing at state and national level and swimming as a breaststroker in the Pan Pacific Games.
“I used to train five mornings a week for two hours in the morning and compete every weekend,” she said.
“I love the water and really want to pass on my passion to the children, so they are confident and safe in the water.
Ms Kilburn said she was thrilled about the new pool opening and has already seen a vast improvement in the fitness of children.
“The facility is amazing and the opportunity for the kids to get in and swim after school is exceptional.
“It’s a really healthy environment and exercise for everyone to do.”
Taking children from swimming classes right through to competition level with three sessions a week.
“It’s a great environment where kids compete against themselves and their own times, but we can nurture and expand their competitive swimming if they want to go further too,” she said.
Club president David Galloway said they were looking forward to the season.
“We were lucky enough to secure Jane and we’ve already had some really good numbers at training sessions.
“We’re in the rebuilding stage of our club after the pool was closed last season, we currently have 48 members ranging in ages from 9-15 and are hoping for more to get involved.”
Trainings will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4-5pm when school goes back with an introduction to squad training at 3.30pm for younger kids too.
Cost is $5 per child.
