Some shop owners throughout Bridport and Scottsdale have received a nice surprise in their letterbox in recent day from Bridport Primary School students.
Teacher Brittany Woods said the grade five and six classes led by herself, Cameron Lynch and Deb Reid have been spreading cheer by writing letters to businesses impacted by COVID-19.
“We sat down as a group and we talked about the businesses who might be suffering in our community,” she said.
“We brainstormed a list of businesses and students chose who they would like to write a letter to.
“We thought it would be a nice thing for them to give back at this hard time and also a good chance for them to develop skills in writing letters and addressing envelopes which doesn’t happen so much these days.”
Students were encouraged to make their letters bright and colourful, including drawings and heartfelt messages for the recipients.
The Bridport Café, the Bunker Club, D&Me, Inspirations and Destinations, Dorset Council, the doctors' surgery and the Scottsdale Vet are among the businesses who have received letters.
In a further bid to brighten up the mood on campus and in the wider community, students have also been working on colourful displays of rainbows, flowers and birds for the front of the school.
