It’s hard to imagine being a veteran of your chosen sport at age 13, but grade eight Scottsdale High student Zoe Reid-Denman already has nine years of playing soccer behind her.

Fresh from a weekend carnival in Devonport, where her representative team from the Northern Tasmanian Junior Soccer Association finished second in its group, she’s planning the next foray to be part of the biggest junior soccer tournament in the Southern Hemisphere.

The team will compete in the McDonalds Kanga Cup in Canberra over a week early next month.

The weekend’s competition was not without its challenges, as her under 15 team was bumped up to play against under 16 girls.

Because of their average age the reverse will happen in Canberra, slated to play in the under 14 division.

Zoe regularly plays for the North Launceston Eagles and the usual defender underlines her commitment to her sport by coaching the under six team.

She is embarking on a fund raising drive selling chocolates to help meet travel costs to the Canberra competition.
