Availability of the Moderna strain of Covid vaccine in Scottsdale has proven popular.

The Guardian Pharmacy has been taking bookings for clinics, which started last week, but pharmacist in charge Bonnie Kelly said they are now booked out for the rest of the year.

“Our space and staffing are a bit limited, so we can only do about one clinic a week.

“So we’re passing on enquiries now to the Ochre Medical Centre, which is arranging small clinics as well.”

She said making Moderna available for people as young as 12 has meant vaccinations are open to a much wider demographic and many are heeding the message not to wait.

Completing the follow-up Moderna shot four weeks after the first has also affected the bookings list.

One of those to roll up his sleeve was Jacob Campbell, who was taking the first opportunity to get his jab.

The 28-year old sparky sees a dual purpose in being vaccinated.

“We work in places like the hospital and aged care where we’re near or in contact with people who are at higher risk, so we’ve got to be careful.

“It will be good to be able to think about travel again and a few other things we might able to do in our downtime.

“Getting the jab just makes sense,” he said.

Ms Kelly said the pharmacy would also be getting supplies to administer AstraZeneca strain vaccines as well, but again bookings were not available for the foreseeable future.

She has to arrange a locum to cover for the usual workload on clinic days.
