A Federation home on the outskirts of Scottsdale named Willow Lodge has won a major tourism award last week taking out the Country Lodge of the Year for Tasmania.

Owner Peter Roebuck said the bed and breakfast styled accommodation is nestled on one and a half acres of beautiful English style gardens overlooking open fields and spectacular mountains.

Mr Roebuck purchased the property three years ago in the peak of Covid, in his words purchasing it as a ‘reaction to get out of Sydney quick!’

He soon fell in love with the place and throughout the past year has really focused on giving customers a premium and personal experience.

The award from the Tourism Industry Hotel Association was determined primarily by customer reviews making the win just that extra special.

“The home has so much potential, at the moment I’m the fly in and fly out innkeeper,” he chuckled.

“I have a home in Sydney as well but find I’m spending more and more
time here.”

Mr Roebuck said he has customers from all over the world.

“Most recently I’ve had English, Japanese, Americans and probably my favourite group are Queenslanders, they’re here to have fun and always do have fun.

“I’ve got one person who is now on her fifth visit, and I do have a lot of government employees come here for their meetings, I’m listed on the government website so that’s really great for business.

“I’ve even had the Attorney General stay, you never know when the door opens who’s going to turn up and that’s fabulous for me,” he concluded.
