Sarah White has joined the Scottsdale Veterinary Service team this week as a vet, returning to the practice where she completed some of her training.
She made the move to the North-East from Wagga Wagga in New South Wales after graduating from Charles Sturt university last month.
After two weeks in isolation, she’s ready to get to know the local community.
Sarah grew up her family’s sheep and beef property in central west New South Wales in a little town called Coolah of about 800 people.
“I’ve always been around animals and love small communities. I thought Scottsdale would be a good place for me to start,” she said.
“I did prac with these guys in October last year and the year before.
“My sister used to work on a property over near Waterhouse a few years ago. I’d never been to Tassie before and I came to visit her and I was told there was a really good vet clinic nearby.
“So I looked into and thought I’d give it a go. I absolutely loved it and really love dairy so I thought it was a good fit.”
Sarah said she always knew she wanted to work in agriculture with production animals and after looking at different pathways, she decided to pursue veterinary.
“I can’t imagine doing anything else now,” she said.
“I like the fact that with a practice like this you get a mixed bag and you don’t know what will walk through the door.
“Being in a small community everyone looks out for everyone – that’s what I’ve always believed with the town I come from – this is a really nice way to be involved and be part of the community as a whole.”
