Winnaleah’s Lyn Mullins said news that she’d won the prestigious International Bowl golf event last week was still sinking in after gaining the best score in the state over three rounds.
Mullins attended the Barclay Shield match in Hobart last Monday with her four Moorina teammates when Golf Australia announced the International Bowl winners for the year.
“I was a bit gobsmacked to be honest, I knew I played well but never really thought anymore about it,” she said.
The yearly competition is run over three months with one round played per month across three separate divisions.
“You submit your results to Golf Australia, and they work out the best scores overall with the winner being able to travel to the mainland to compete in various events.”
Mullins believed her 62 nett score while playing on her home course at Moorina was her best and winning result.
“I was really relaxed that day, and everything fell into place, my drives were long and up the middle and the putts fell in – most golfers can relate to that. Luck always has a lot to do with it too,” she chuckled.
Mullins said the win will mean she will get to compete in the Ladies Open in Melbourne, attend a special cocktail party and play in the prestigious Pro-Am (Professional and Amateur) competition over summer.
“It’s going to be so awesome; I’ll get to mix and mingle with some of the best in Australia. “I’m slightly packing my dacks about the Pro-Am competition because they are pros and I am not,” she laughed.
“I absolutely love the game and the social side of it. The Moorina girls and I try to go to other courses and play as much as possible so we can improve. It’s a great time.”
Mullins has been playing golf for over thirty years, this will be the first time that she will compete on the mainland.
We wish you all the best.
