Impressive locally bred thoroughbred gelding Dusty Joe charged home at the gallops in Devonport on Sunday night to win his maiden race by a convincing 3.5 lengths.
The 1350m length was ridden expertly by jockey Troy Baker who was able to utilise Dusty Joe’s good barrier and control the race from the front to score the win.
The four-year-old was bred by Bridport’s Philip Bingley on his Boddingtons Road property and named after his mother Joanne after the foal was born on her birthday.
“Our family has a long history of breeding racehorses, it's definitely an ongoing passion,” he said.
“This was Dusty’s first win, he had a couple of starts before hand and had gone close but after a short break he’s come back in good order and won the race.”
Philip and his family were there to cheer him home, owning the horse with his father Tim Bingley, his uncle Doug Bingley, Mark Nichols, Chloe Berry and Chris Barcza.
“It was very exciting.
“It takes a long time when you breed a horse, to get a good horse to the track let along a winner, you need to be patient.”
Trainer Adam Trinder said it was great to see most of the owners on course.
“They also picked up a $20,000 Tas bred bonus making it a $30k total for Joe’s first win.”
The chestnut will likely have another run in a couple of weeks time.
“He’s a lovely quiet almost goofy horse, we’re looking forward to seeing where his career leads,” Philip concluded.
