Popular pull off route just before you enter the township of Bridport, Ezzy Park has been a useful space since it was built in 1996 and thanks to local volunteers it's undergoing a much-needed make-over just in time for summer.
Bridport Innovations member Jenny Whenn said it was named in honour of the Ezzy family who were once owners of the Bridport Newsagency.
“The late Rev. Ezzy planted trees and shrubs in various parts of the town, including this area later named in his honour,” she said.
“It was originally built by Rotary with in-kind support from Dorset Council, for the purpose of providing visitors to Bridport with local tourist information.
Mrs Whenn said various local organisations have been involved in its periodic maintenance over time.
“After consultation with other stakeholders, Bridport Innovations agreed about two years ago to undertake a major upgrade, with mostly donated material covering the aboriginal history of the North-East, natural attractions, fish of the region and historic photos of Bridport’s early settlement,” she said.
A new original artwork will also feature.
Work commenced last week with Bridport Innovations members removing the out-dated tourism information and infrastructure, much of which will be re-cycled, to make way for the exciting new space.
“The upgrade will be a colourful introduction more generic than commercial as was previously to Bridport, and direct visitors to the Pavilion Information Centre in Main Street for more details.”
The final cost of the project has not yet been finalised but will be funded by Bridport Innovations Inc. and in-kind support from Dorset Council for materials.
The group anticipate a soft opening by the end of the year. Watch this space.
