Residents across the region will commemorate ANZAC Day on Monday April 25, in honour of all who have served and sacrificed for our country.
Dawn service at Winnaleah
There will be a dawn service held in Winnaleah at 6am, at the Winnaleah Memorial Hall with poems read by student leaders, and breakfast to follow at the pub.
Anyone wishing to lay a wreath should make themselves known to organiser Bill O’Reilly on the day, prior to the start of the service.
Unknown Solider honoured in Scottsdale
In Scottsdale the dawn service will commence at 6am at the Scottsdale Cenotaph.
This will be followed by breakfast at the Scottsdale RSL, which is $15 a head (cost waived for Veteran Card Holders), and a Gunfire Breakfast of tea or coffee.
The march will begin at the RSL club at 10.45am, with all participants required at the club by 10.30am.
This year will see an easing of restrictions and it’s hoped there will be a great parade including local schools, sporting and community groups.
The main service will begin at the cenotaph at 11am.
Anyone requiring a chair is asked to bring their own.
Local Bill O’Reilly, who is the only former submariner in the region, will be the guest speaker at the main service in Scottsdale.
The topic this year is the Unknown Soldier.
Mr O’Reilly said he didn’t want to give too much away but it appears the soldier had connections to the North-East.
There will be fellowship and lunch at the RSL Club after the service and the Military Museum will be open all day from 10.30am.
Any organisations, veterans or individuals wishing to lay a wreath or march are asked to email eddiefurnell@ozemail.com.au no later than April 23, and those intending to march should provide their organisation’s details and number of people marching.
Seaside commemorations in Bridport
Bridport will host a dawn service at the Bridport Cenotaph at 6am followed by breakfast at the Bunker Club at a cost of $10 per head.
The main service will take place at the Cenotaph at 11am, which will be followed by laying of the wreaths.
Some seating will be provided. All attendees are asked to observe Covid protocols.
Anyone interested in marching is asked to assemble by 10.40am at the CWA carpark for the march to the cenotaph.
There will be lunch available at the Bunker from 12pm.
Family friendly services in Ringarooma
In Ringarooma there will be an 11am service at the Memorial Hall, where veterans, local groups and members of the general public are invited to lay wreaths or flowers.
There will be a march to the hall commencing at 10.45am in the Main Street from the Old Bank corner.
Anyone wishing to march is asked to meet at 10.30am.
Organisers have stressed that children especially are invited to participate in the march and the service.
Anyone planning to lay a wreath is asked to contact Donna 0499 990 677.
The service will be followed up with a luncheon at the Community Hub at $10 a head, with all funds donated to Legacy in the North-East.

Springfield honours Land Army Girls
Springfield will host a 2.30pm service at Friends of St Paul's Church.
The service will be held outside again due to Covid.
This year’s guest address will be focussed on the Land Army Girls with an address given by great grandchildren of Zoe Hill who came to the North-East as a Land Army worker and married a local and lived here until her death last year.
The service will consist of wreath laying, ode, flag raising and there will be an afternoon tea to follow, with a selection of delicious Anzac Biscuits.
Local residents are encouraged to attend a service throughout the municipality on ANZAC Day commemorating the sacrifices of service men and women.
