Cutting edge forestry recognised

Local forest contracting company JCH Harvest Group were recognised for their innovation, planning and onsite operations at the Forest Practices Awards last week.
The annual state wide awards were held at the Launceston Conference Centre shining a light on the various skilled people and companies who continue to strive for excellence in the industry.
JCH Harvest owners Jacob Hughes and Lauren Carter were thrilled to win the Innovation in Forest Practice for steep harvesting award and the Conduct of Forest Operations award.
This recognised their work in supporting eagles nest research, and high operational standards across all crews.
The awards were presented by Pam Allan, chair of the Forest Practices Authority (FPA) board who works as an independent regulatory body in the industry.
“We are particularly pleased to present two awards to forest contracting company JCH Harvest Group.
“Forest contractors are literally at the cutting edge of forestry and it so encouraging to see companies like this one innovating and taking their environmental and operational obligations really seriously,” she said.
Director Jacob Hughes said he was pleased for their operations teams to be nominated in these categories.
“The FPA guide regulates our practice and to be recognised in this way is affirmation we are working towards the right metrics,” he said.
Ms Carter added that JCH were very passionate about operating in the North-East region, employing locals and promoting the environmental consideration that is given to this process of harvesting sustainable forest products
“We have a clear and well communicated ethos across all our operations teams. For the boys to be recognised in this way is a true reflection on their commitment to upholding high standards in their daily practice,” she concluded.
