• Get to know Dustin Hollick, the Advertiser's newest News Reporter.

April 19, 2023

The Advertiser office officially welcomes Dustin Hollick into the role of News Reporter taking over Daisy Baker’s position while she grows her family’s brood.

Dustin is a father of two boys who lives on a 200-acre farm at Four Mile Creek on the (sometimes) sunny East-Coast.

After working hard in labor intensive jobs all his life his back packed it in, so he has decided to ditch the tools and pick up the pencil.

“I’ve dabbled in the media industry on and off over the years and actually started a company called Switch Board Media where I mainly worked in video production and photography but crossed over later into stories too,” he said.

“Our main client was Nine MSN so that gives you the scope of the content.”

Dustin, Dusto or Dusty – you choose – describes himself as a people person and tested that characteristic with a mate a couple of years ago filming a miniseries for Laps TV.

“Basically, a mate and I documented a ten day trip around Tasmania where we didn’t use any cash, no car and  no phone.

“We went back to the bartering system and even completed survival school before we started but really, we found all the locals were too friendly, every second person picked us up, shouted us beers and steaks and gave us a place to stay.

“I guess that’s Tasmanians for you!”

In his spare time, he and his sons, Sunny and Harley, love surfing and surf photography, often contributing content to magazines the Surfers Journal and White Horses.

“I love the community vibe of the Advertiser and hope the masthead will continue well into the future.

“The comaraderie in the office is great and a welcome change from long lonely days spent on fishing boats or constructing formwork,” he said.

Whilst he is a little rusty Dustin is extremely keen to learn more about the journalistic craft.

“Rest assured the girls are imparting all the knowledge they can on me before they both shoot off on maternity leave.”

Daisy’s official last day will be on April 25.
