In an entertaining match on Friday evening played in front of an appreciative crowd Bridport proved too strong for the Branxholm Brewers in the grand final of the NECA T20 competition.

Branxholm batting first managed 9/135 off their allotted 20 overs but the Port needed just 18 overs to reach the target and take home the spoils for 2021/22.

The Brewers had an early setback when Joel Hayes was dismissed in the second over, but recovered as Bryton Mullins and David Tulloch began to retrieve the situation.

They put on 46 valuable runs as Tulloch in particular began to score freely.

He smashed seven 4s and two 6s before he was caught going for one more for 56.

Skipper Jonty Mullins steadied the ship with 31 but the rest of the Branxholm batting lineup failed and 135 after 20 overs didn't appear to be enough.

Bridport opener Matty Taylor announced his intention early with a six off the first ball of the innings and matters didn't really get better for the embattled Branxholm Brewers.

Dean, Wesley, Groves and Lanham went cheaply but the Port had plenty in reserve, and Josh Nunn's undefeated contribution of 45 coupled with Taylor's 65 saw them home with a few overs remaining.

Hayward and Hayes were the best of the Brewers' bowlers but they just didn't have a decent total to defend.
