Mikayla Binns, one of northern Tasmania's best female players is returning home to take on the role of coach of Scottsdale Football Club's senior women's team.

Binns (26) comes to the job after coaching Launceston to this year's NTFAW premiership, and in 2020 she was a member of Launceston's statewide premiership team.

She will replace Cabel Hall, who led the club's entry into women's football from 2017.

Hall coached the team to premierships in 2017 and 2020. He stepped away from the role after this season.

Binns started playing the game in 2015 in Launceston, and spent two years with the Scottsdale team in 2018-19.

A key defender, Binns was a member of the NTFA representative team this year, and was also named in the association's team of the year for 2021.

President Cameron Moore said the club was very happy to get Mikayla back.

“She's experienced, a good player, and she's local - that ticks all the important boxes for our club.

"Cabel has done a marvellous job establishing women's footy as a key component of our club, and our board is confident that Mikayla will continue that heritage," he added.

Binns said it was good to come back home.

"I’m looking forward to bringing what I've learned at Launceston which has had a successful women's program," she said.

"I'm aware the footy club has really promoted footy with young girls and I want to get involved with the pathway through to senior matches.

"There are four girls who we can welcome from the Under 17 premiership team, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they measure up.

"This senior women's team has played finals every year since women's footy started in the north, and obviously that's got to be a major aim in 2022," Binns said.

Training for the women's team will start in late November.
