A formal opening of the upgraded May Shaw Aminya Aged Care centre has been held in Scottsdale.

Residents and dignitaries gathered at the centre to mark the completion of the $6 million project, which took 16 months to complete.

The project has included the relocation of 25 residents from the Tasmanian Health Service leased James Scott Wing into the new site, incorporating Aminya.

Chair of the May Shaw Board Di Aldous said all the new rooms had been designed with the latest comfort, safety and accessibility features, like wide doorways, lifting aids and fold-away seats in showers.

All have generous inbuilt wardrobe and storage space, TV and Wi-Fi.

“Our exciting new extension, means we now offer a better range of rooms that will suit everyone’s needs and budget.

“The new rooms come in two styles, with valley views to Scottsdale's east and others with close access to the new courtyard area.”

The Federal Member for Bass Bridget Archer said she last visited the facility in August 2019   to announce a $3 million Federal Government grant towards the project.

“It’s incredibly exciting to stand here today, less than two years later, to celebrate the official launch. I am sure it was no small feat to finish this project during the midst of a global pandemic.

“Securing the Aminya facility and getting this project off the ground was a collaborative effort between May Shaw and all three levels of government and I am sure I speak for all of us when I say we are thrilled to be here to celebrate this redevelopment and what it means for those of you who live here,” Mrs Archer said.

May Shaw Aminya is a not-for-profit health service entity operating in both Scottsdale and Swansea.

Ms Aldous said the group was proud to be a health care provider in rural settings, with more than 110 beds across these areas and provision of home care and day centres and independent living units.

“May Shaw is proud to be providing a high standard of care to the communities.”

The organisation employs more 170 people in these communities and works with local businesses to provide services and catering into the local areas.
